Earth Day!

FACT:

The energy saved by recycling one aluminum can will operate a TV set for 3 hours.

With Earth hour looming near I have taken a moment to think about this beautiful planet of ours and how we are all destroying it. I wish it was easier to change my evil ways, this world has been given to the people of today’s society wrapped in a pretty bright coloured package, and I dare say it glows. Unfortunately that glow is not as pretty as it appears. Why can’t it be a little easier for me to give up my vehicle and walk the kids to school, or all these other day to day luxeries we have all come to love? My grandmother got by without them. Mind you she never had any time to discover her true self either with raising ten kids on a tight budget. I think she would have loved my new fandangle washing machine/steamer/dryer, it beeps, buzzes and lghts up like a ufo. Sure beats washing by hand. But I feel so terribly guilty, so here and now I vow to begin taking steps towards the future to help make this world a safer and cleaner place for the future. I pray it’s not too late..

Food additives, chemicals, preservatives…

This book is a necessity in the family home these days, makes for very interesting reading and will also make you question, if you have not already, what you are feeding your family.

Another great book to check out if you have been contemplating cleaning up your household or if you have found you have reactions to certain skin care products etc. Some symptoms you commonly have you may never have suspected being caused by your shampoo or handcream. http://www.possibility.com.au/

Beauty and the 8 year old…

Does anyone know how and when this ‘tween’ crisis begun and why are the media and retailors taking advantage of it?? Bratz dolls…maybe thats it. When I was a little girl the barbie was sometimes frowned upon for the image it provokes in our children’s minds. Has anyone seen the way a bratz dress? And these dolls are based on the tween to teen age group. Apparently the ‘tween’ stage starts sometime between 6 and 14. My daughter is 8, this morning there was a dispute over false finger nails and wanting to wear them to school!! Every day I am contending with a constant battle with lipgloss, nail polish, jewellery and fashion. Getting hair done in the morning is a world crisis and may God be with anyone who messes with the fashionable princess hair. Also there is a whole new isle in the department stores these days where you can pick up your child size padded bra..oh my God! Am I the only one who is concerned with this? Basically what these CHILDREN are learning is about sexuality and how to use it. Is it us mum’s to blame unknowingly? I know I have at times asked for my daughter’s opinion on an outfit or lip colour, se has also heard me mention after my last child was born how difficult it is to loose extra kilos. These children also see all and hear all, they notice they way we womn straighten up and tidy our hair when greated by the opposite sex, they also see how we tend to use it to manipulate men to get our own way. Without knowing have we brought about this upon ourselves and now have no choice but to suffer the consequences. Is it too late? I just know that I am going to relish in the moments as few and far between they come, when my little girl slips back into her sweet little ways and wants mummy’s cuddles for a while.

Remember…

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. – George Carlin

learn to be still…

inspir2.jpg

I think I have finally learnt what it means to be still. I have found beauty in the simplest things in this world, coffee on a peacefull foggy morning, peerless blue skies, and amongst other things the magic sound of children’s laughter. I have decided that I am going to try my hand at starting my own almost sustainable living environment! I have begun planting fruit trees, blueberries, strawberries, all the varieties of common produce and also a small herb garden. Chickens have found their way into my life and my heart ( uses were for eggs and meat until I realised they were friendly souls). I am learning to bake bread, raise children, stand strong and be still.

I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much. – Mother Teresa
